This edition features Goldfish Restaurant at Perimeter Mall and what a great way to re-enter the foodie blog world. Here is where we celebrated Mother's Day. The atmosphere is a little hectic (well it is located at the mall), but the hostesses were very welcoming and seemed to run the reservation desk quite efficiently. The valets on the other hand...we'll get to them later. The main dining room is very loud, so definitely not a good location for a romantic dinner with that special someone, but great for groups. Luckily, our party of 4 was seated in what appeared to be a wine room...less frenzied.
Our waitress Brooke started off a little rocky according to my standards of customer service. Upon approach to our table, she removed the wine list book from the table (mind you, we had not looked through it at this juncture). When my Grandmother was attempting to decide which wine to order, I had to advise Brooke to return the wine list to the table...really?!...what, you only have one? She then rubbed me the wrong way when my husband asked what type of teas they offer. Her response: "Sweet or Unsweet" (with an attitude). I believe at this point she felt a sense of discomfort, as all eyes were on her with *blank stare*...LOL.
For appetizers, my husband ordered the fried oysters, and I had the calamari. Both were rather decent, but nothing to right home about. Now, my baby spinach and arugula salad with cranberries, pine nuts, goat cheese was fabulous! I can honestly say, I could eat that salad at least 3 days of the week. The rolls however...let's just say, you better eat them AS SOON as the get to the table. Otherwise, save them for a future air hockey game!
Now, let's get to the good part...the main course! My daughter had the crab-stuffed shrimp with whipped potatoes...yummy! My grandmother had the Tom-Tom Tilapia with whipped potatoes and sautéed green beans...delish! My husband had the porcini mahi with gnocchi, mushrooms, and spinach...delectable! And, I enjoyed the pecan crusted trout topped with spinach and mushrooms and served with a side of pepper jack grits...scrumptious! This by far, was the highlight of dinner....thankfully.
All-in-all it was a good evening of dining. Didn't have any preconceived notions on what to expect, so any disappointment experienced was minimal. My biggest complaint concerns the valets. I have a really big pet peeve with valets in Atlanta...If you advertise valet parking is $5, and I give you a $10 bill, don't assume the other $5 is yours! REALLY?!?!?!?!
